Wodonga Plant Farm takes the lead on water conservation The Wodonga Plant farm has been selected to participate in a State-wide pilot program promoting water conservation. It has been accredited as a water saver garden centre; an initiative of the Victorian Government’s our water our future plan. Wodonga Plant farm staff have undergone training in best practice water saving principles and can now advise customers in all aspects of water wise gardening. Business partner Andrew Pollard said he was thrilled the centre had been given the opportunity to participate in the program, particularly at a time when local gardeners are growing increasingly concerned at the effects of the prolonged dry spell. “We can now offer practical advice on plant selection, garden design, water harvesting and irrigation which will allow our customers to continue to enjoy their gardens, but without excessive water use.” Mr Pollard said. Victorian Water Minister John Thwaites said eight years of low rainfall and climate change has meant that gardeners must begin to adopt new approaches to using water. Mr Pollard said the water saver garden centre initiative is about educating the community that you can minimise water consumption and still have a spectacular garden. As an added bonus, anyone visiting the Wodonga Plant Farm over the next few weeks can enter a competition to win a $20,000 garden design make-over by the Jamie Durie Garden Design Team.
